Our House System

At Kingswood College, the House system plays a vital role in fostering community, school spirit, and student engagement across all year levels. Students are placed into one of four Houses and participate in a wide range of inter-house activities, including sport, performing arts, and service initiatives. The system promotes teamwork, leadership, and a strong sense of belonging, enriching the overall student experience.

The History of our Houses

In the early days, our House System only had two Houses, New (blue and gold) and Rhaiadore (red and gold). Brunning, New and Gwynton Houses replaced the original ‘Blue’, ‘Gold’ and ‘White’ Houses in 1965, with Walker House established in 1967.

BRUNNING HOUSE (RED)

Admired by generations as a critical part of the community both in and out of the classroom, Rupert Brunning served as the Science and Geography Teacher, Sports Master and Vice-Principal at Box Hill Grammar School over the course of three decades. GWYNTON HOUSE (BLUE)

Gwynton Park was a 24-acre property located on Station Street in Box Hill, purchased in 1928 by the Methodist (now Uniting) Church as the new site for Box Hill Grammar School, which would later evolve into Kingswood College. Image: 1931 - Gwynton Park Dam at rear of the School

NEW HOUSE (YELLOW)

Originally named after Arthur Stephenson’s first teaching position at New College in Oxford, England, now recognised as the beginning of our history in 1890, for his founding of New College as a boys' school for day students and boarders in Rose Street Box Hill.
