Early Learning Centre

Our ELC is an engaging, nurturing and inspiring environment where children learn through inquiry, exploration, play, questioning and reflection. We know and value the fundamental importance of the early years and work collaboratively with the Junior School staff to ensure students experience a smooth transition from the ELC to Prep.

Our very experienced early learning educators create an inclusive, relaxed and engaging learning environment for all children. Your child will have many opportunities to engage their curiosity and sense of wonder through our indoor and outdoor learning environments, which include exploring our expansive campus grounds. Our program also includes a range of specialist subjects, including Library, Art, Music, Chinese and Perceptual Motor Program (PMP, i.e. sport).

Our Philosophy

The Kingswood College Early Learning Centre philosophy was created as a collaborative project between our education team and families to reflect our current values and beliefs regarding the education and wellbeing of our community of learners. It draws on multiple theoretical perspectives and current research and is revised annually. We acknowledge that children are active participants in the Kingswood College Early Learning Centre community.

We value the importance of play in children’s lives and the curriculum is planned to give children the opportunity to explore, question, discover and reflect. Small group sizes enable ELC staff and children time to form secure relationships and connect with each other and their learning environment.

Planning is flexible, fostering children’s ideas and interests, and values the use of natural and open-ended materials. We strive to develop a positive disposition to learning.

Standard & Extended Day Program

The Kinder and Pre Prep programs are available as a standard or extended day program. The short day program is run between 8.30am and 4.00pm and offered for 48 weeks a year or during term time only (39 weeks a year). The long day program is run between 7.30am and 6.00pm for 48 weeks a year.

Families may be eligible to receive the Child Care Subsidy for the above programs. Eligibility can be checked on the government website accessed here. The Victorian Government “Free Kinder Offset” is also available to eligible children and will be paid as a rebate to families throughout the year.

At Kingswood College we proudly work to fulfil our vision to embolden hearts and inspire minds in a nurturing environment, on land that holds deep cultural significance to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge and honour their Elders, past and present, and extend our respect to all First Nations people. Whenever we gather, and wherever we gather, we extend respect and dignity to the first inhabitants of our country and acknowledge the truth about the country on which our school has stood and now stands.
